  • Rockin' My world

My house has finally gotten sheet rocked!   I can't believe how excited I am!

    Photobucket

Mr. Tape and texture guy has been here all week and is almost done with the basement.  He is  nice and easy going.  He says things like, "Oh it's no big deal," and "We can figure out a way to make that work."

You don't know how I love to hear those words!

The only thing he and I disagree on is that I want smooth ceilings and walls, and he wants them heavily textured.  I told him that wasn't the look I was going for, but he is not getting me.  Most the people who have been involved in this process don't get my style.  In fact I am not sure I always get my style, I just know when I like something and when I don't.

That doesn't make for an easy explanation.

So, needless to say Mr. Tape and Texture guy and I are having terminology difficulties.  I say contemporary and he thinks I mean brand new house type of feel.  I don't want it to feel like a new house, but a contemporary home mixed with some aged qualities.  A bringing together of old and new, masculine and feminine, chrome and flowers (but only certain flowers like BIG statement types.)

Maybe this will help you get my vibe....

This look is inspiring me right now: (from apartmenttherapy.com)

I love the earthiness and clean lines with little pops of color.  I also am in love with the stained concrete floors.  I am so going to do them in the basement, but am not sure on the color.  This is a vote that will soon come your way.  I am thinking my scheme will have lots of earthy tones with orange and turquoise.  It seems that is what makes my eyes happy.

I may just completely copy this room.  I LOVE simplicity.  It makes me go Ahhh. My dilemma is that I have an orange comforter very similar to this one, but I am also thinking of a purple bedroom.  Maybe I could combine the two?  I can imagine a lovely purple pillow in front of those orange pillows.  Hmmmmm thinking.

Love the barn door feel, and I actually will be using one on our bedroom door because of the narrowness of the entrance.

Okay, are you feeling me yet?
Now lets transition back to my naked walls.

I know I've been saying this for a long time, call me hopeful, but.... I actually think I will be needing your opinions VERY soon.  The basement will be done tomorrow, and then I will be able to paint.  That is of course if I can settle on colors.

Thanks for your help!  I am so glad I don't have to make all these decisions alone.  I do have my husband, but he really doesn't care.  I am serious when I say that.

Once in awhile (and I truly mean once in a very LONG while) he will say, "Is that going to be in the house?"  I have come to realize that that statements translation is: "That is something I would like can we do that in our house?"

So, when I hear, "Is that going to be in our house?" I stop and take note.

Tonight he used that statement in regards to a fireplace.  I quickly scooped up any pictures that I had that resembled what he liked knowing that I had about two minutes.  After two minutes his mind goes back to mathematical calculations and business transactions.  I suppose it is only fair since whenever he begins a financial talk my brain immediately travels to a far away place.  It somehow works for us.  He tells me how much I can spend, then I get creative.  No nagging each other or looking over each others shoulder.  He trusts me to not max out a credit card, and I trust that I will not come home to a lime green rearranged living room.

                                                                                   Sweet oblivion I tell you!

Oooh, I love when you let us in on your house project!
    Pantry? What is pantry?

And you, my friend, Will Make It!
Your header is Beautiful and reveals your great sense of humor as well...er...no. wait. You weren't kidding. Waiting really is hard!

    Love ya!

HOW EXCITING!!!!  I hope you have someone to paint all of that for you!  Joey and I painted our new house almost 3 years ago floor board to crown molding and I still have not recovered from it.  (about 3/4 of the way through I told him I thought if we would have built the 2 story one I think I would burn in!)  However, we were painting with no electricity, a gas space heater, generator and shop lights at night in the winter!  It's beautiful I know you are so excited!!!!

  • SpazzyMommy

I LOVE the blue paint color on the wall behind the sofa. ;) How exciting all of this must be for you!!! :) I love combining colors, textures, fabrics and furnitures. :) It's what makes me click.

I'm more of a "traditional" girl with country style cottages- but I really like the pic's you've posted for your inspiration! :)

  • inhislight07

@mellibella - Thanks for suggesting the painting.  I was wondering myself if we should just bite the bullet and have it done instead of fussing with it.  I think I would be recovering about the time it is to repaint it all again which really is not appealing to me.

  • inhislight07

@down_onthefarm - Yeah a pantry right?  I have only heard good things about them and excited to try one out.....One thing  I have had to do is wait this past year.  I am hoping the housing project is fully birthed about the time the baby comes we shall see.  If not I am okay here for another year.....hahah well maybe not.

  • inhislight07

@SpazzyMommy - Yeah that blue is yummy I know I NEED It, but just not sure where.  I feel like God maybe felt designing the universe......"Oh the possiblities......"

  • inhislight07

@mellibella - oh btw there has been much talk about burning this house....mostly our builder lol

  • mellibella

@inhislight07 - I would def say if you can afford to have someone do it, it would be worth it...that was not an option for us at all though....I must say though during that time we found out who our true friends were...there were a bare few who came and helped out under those circumstances.  With power and heat, it wouldn't have been nearly as bad though I am sure, but girl that looks like a LOTTA walls to me!!!

  • Elizabethmarie_1

You're so funny!  How exciting!!!  I bet you can't wait to get in there and create!!!

  • bakersdozen2

Oh Wow! I love your header picture. Sorry I don't have a decorating opinion.  But so glad you're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!   ~Yay!!

  • inhislight07

@bakersdozen2 - @bakersdozen2 - Thanks......I can't believe it is almost time to birth...house and baby. Hope all is good with you!!

*I love the orange and purple bedroom idea.  I kinda did that but ended up doing purple, yellow, and light green.
*I like the idea of the basement having stained concrete...wouldn't it be pretty cold in the winter though...just a thought.
*I love your idea of pops of color, sounds beautiful. From what I'm seeing, I'm surmising you want simple/70's-80's.

  • robins_egg_blue

I absolutely LOVE this style...for the same reasons as you!  And a purple with orange is SO FUN!  Maybe use one of the colors sparingly?  Stained concrete is fabulous, but I agree with redladybug...maybe a tad cold in a basement.  Solution?  Use lots of yummy thick throw rugs and you'll be toasty warm.  You are doing great!  Keep on keepin on!

  • inhislight07

@redladybug18 - @robins_egg_blue - THanks I hope you guys keep giving your creative opinions since I know you are both creative souls.  We actually put in floor heating in the concrete to off set the coldness in case we went that route.  I am also a bit concerned it won't be homey enough.....I don't love carpet, but I do love rolling around with kids on it..so I am unsure about the family room area if I want the concrete?!!

  • redladybug18

@inhislight07 - I can tell you from experience of having tile and hardwood floor all down stairs, I miss the carpet.  Especially when watching movies.  You can really curl up with concrete :)  Lots of big rugs would probably fix that for you though.
